Who We Are
The Compounding for a Cure Foundation is a student-run non-profit organization that manages a real-money investment portfolio with the goal of generating funds and raising awareness for ALS research. Founded in 2016, CFAC’s mission is twofold: to educate students on the fundamentals of capital markets while raising awareness and funds for ALS research.
CFAC provides students with real experience in managing an investment portfolio. Members undergo an extensive training program on equity research, valuation & financial modelling. The investment team pitches both stock initiations and holding reviews to the investment committee.
Beyond stock pitching, the team puts on various events, competitions and workshops - strengthening UBC's finance community while supporting its philanthropic efforts. Members gain invaluable experience and mentorship from upper-year students and industry professionals that provide them with the essential skills, network, and preparation to break into the world of finance.

Core Pillars
Philanthropy: Promote awareness and raise money for ALS research through organizing fundraisers and actively managing an investment portfolio.

Education: Foster the development of transferable skill sets and provide hands-on experience to equip our members with the essential fundamentals for success in the capital markets industry.

Mentorship: Create a supportive environment for peer mentorship between members, alumni, and industry professionals to help guide students as they embark on their career journeys.

Portfolio
CFAC Portfolio Management follows a bottom-up fundamental investing strategy, beginning with a screening process to identify stocks trading below their intrinsic value. Our analysts engage in an in-depth research process to evaluate and understand each company, which can take several months for a single investment idea. Before executing any trade, CFAC Portfolio Management ensures a comprehensive understanding of the company's valuation and the primary drivers of its future growth potential. This disciplined research approach is designed to minimize the risk of unforeseen challenges.

Our Philanthropy
CFAC was founded in 2016 with the philanthropic purpose of raising awareness and money for ALS research. As a UBC club, we are deeply committed to supporting ALS-related initiatives at UBC, including PROJECT HOPE, which has served as an inspiring catalyst for our members' dedication to these efforts.
